Aseeri coffee ritual and saleeg lunch
Old Abha · Abha, Aseer
4.0 · 1 reviewAbout this experience
Roast and pound green beans the Aseeri way, learn the etiquette of the dallah, then sit to a slow saleeg lunch. A hands-on afternoon in a family majlis in old Abha.
The story behind this experience
Qahwa gets poured for you all over Saudi Arabia. Far rarer is being handed the roasting pan yourself. This afternoon exists because the ritual before the cup — green beans over the fire, the pounding, the etiquette of the dallah — is where Aseeri coffee actually lives, and it can only really be learned by doing it in the room it belongs to: a family majlis in old Abha. Abdulaziz walks you through each step, and when the coffee is done you sit to a slow saleeg lunch, the way a guest would. You leave with a recipe card — which is really a way of saying: now make this for someone else.
Your host

A third-generation farmer from Habala who grew up among the juniper terraces. Abdulaziz hosts small groups to share Aseeri food, music, and the slow rhythm of mountain life.
