Juniper forest dawn walk on Jabal Sawda
Jabal Sawda · Abha, Aseer
About this experience
Meet before sunrise and walk the cloud-line trails of Jabal Sawda, Saudi Arabia’s highest peak, as mist moves through ancient juniper. Your host reads the landscape — the trees, the terraces, the birds — at an unhurried pace.
The story behind this experience
Most people meet Jabal Sawda in full daylight, from the viewpoints. This walk starts before sunrise on purpose: dawn is when the mist moves through the ancient juniper, and Saudi Arabia's highest peak is at its quietest. But the real reason it exists is the difference between scenery and a place. Walk the cloud-line trails alone and you see trees, terraces, birds. Walk them with Abdulaziz — who grew up farming terraces like these in Habala — and the same trail becomes legible: he reads the landscape as you go, at a pace that never hurries. It ends the right way for a cold mountain morning — hot qahwa and an Aseeri breakfast.
Your host

A third-generation farmer from Habala who grew up among the juniper terraces. Abdulaziz hosts small groups to share Aseeri food, music, and the slow rhythm of mountain life.
